Police say about 10 people were killed in a gunfire at an educational center in central Sweden, including the suspect.
RISBERGSKA School was shot at Orebro, 200 km (124 miles) to the west of the capital, Stockholm, on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said that the perpetrator was not known to them before and there was no motive that could be recognized immediately. They said he was acting alone.
They warned on Tuesday evening that the death toll could continue to rise as many people were injured.
“This is a very tragic accident,” said Urebro police chief Roberto Eid.
Earlier, the Swedish Prime Minister said it was “a very painful day for everyone in Sweden.”
A number of injured people were transferred to the hospital, with at least four people undergoing operations.
The police had initially said that the attack was being investigated as an attempt to kill and deliberately attack.
In evening briefing, they confirmed that there was no “terrorist” motivation behind the attack.
Police heard reports of gunfire at the Rispergska School – Adult Education Center – 12:33 local time (11:44 GMT). The facility sits on the campus that includes other schools.
These centers are mainly attended by people who have not finished primary or high school.
Earlier, students in many nearby schools were kept at “security purposes”.
“We don’t want the audience to go there,” Forest warned.
Local media reported that nearby hospitals have cleared emergency rooms and intensive care units to liberate patients.
The University of Orebro Hospital wrote in an update that five people were injured due to gunshot wounds treated in the emergency room. He said that an additional sixth person, who had not previously been injured, was treated with “minor injuries.”
Teacher Lina Warnemark SVT, Swedish General Radio, told her that she heard about 10 gunshots near her studies.
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said that today “a very painful day for everyone in Sweden”, where he participated in that those who have a “ordinary school day” are replaced by terrorism “all of them in his ideas.
“Commitment to classrooms with fear of your life is a nightmare that no one should experience,” Christmson said in a post on X.
“The government is in close contact with the police authority and closely monitoring developments.”
The Minister of Justice, Gunnar Strummer, echoed those notes, and told the local broadcaster SVT, “The news of the attack in Orebro is very dangerous.”
