Your guide to what the US 2024 elections are for Washington and the world
On St. Patrick’s Day, all the Irish. Is it said. Donald Trump, like all other US presidents from Ronald Reagan, invited the Irish government leaders to celebrate the holiday in the oval office. Mutual toasts and ritual presentation of the Schremriks bowl – a symbol of the US interaction – politically, culturally and economically – with Ireland. As the Trump administration pauses for a long partnership in America with Europe on mutual security and trade, there is no better evidence of mutual benefits of continuing this relationship than the transformation of Northern Ireland.
From 1968 to 1998, more than 3,500 people were killed and 50,000 were injured when a sectarian conflict known as problems are raging across Northern Ireland. President Bill Clinton appointed former Senator George Mitchell in 1995 to find a common language between trade unions and nationalists and attract investment in the US to offer economic opportunities and reduce tensions between communities.
During the countless hours of listening, Cajaling and pushing Mitchell, together with other officials, they helped the enemy to see another path forward. This led to the agreement on Good Friday 1998. More than 71 percent of the voters of the referendum in Northern Ireland supported it, as in the republic more than 94 percent.
Of course, the problems do not end with a peace agreement. Fortunately, the engagement in the United States also did not. Each subsequent two -party administration appointed a special messenger to build an agreement, demilitarization of paramilitary groups, solve problems with law enforcement and contributed to economic growth. I hope President Trump quickly appoints his own messenger.
This interaction matters. Today, more than 1,500 international companies, including more than 280 based in the United States, have the presence in Northern Ireland. The region is the world’s leading investment place for US cybersecurity firms and a major center for screen blockbusters like Game of Thrones. The trading transaction between London and Brussels will prove profitable for advanced production firms that are looking for ordering market access to export with the United States and others. Unemployment is 1.6 percent. With the Belfast’s legislative body, the backup and launched after a 24 -month break, the works to the puzzle are finally approaching the place.
However, the greatest achievement of Northern Ireland is a gradual reduction in conflicts based on identity policy – it cannot be measured only by economic indicators. This reflects the interaction force.
America has always represented a public and private platform for political and public leaders on both sides of the division. Meanwhile, cooperation in politics and business has helped to promote cooperation on the Earth’s value lesson in our own polarized political ecosphere.
The old guard of the leadership of Northern Ireland gave way to the new generation. Currently, the Assembly of Northern Ireland is headed by two women, Michel O’Nel from Sinno Faine and Emma Little Pengels of Dupa. Their elevation led to a noticeable change in political discourse. Each leader makes intentional efforts to express that the future of Northern Ireland is big enough to accommodate differences. Tolerance accelerates the way to prosperity.
Today, Northern Ireland is a safer, stronger and more prosperous place from the consistent and constant two -party interaction of the US government, and because US business and academic leaders have reached the Atlantic to support peace.
Today, in times of fluctuations in the inter -gut cooperation to ensure peace, security and economic growth in Europe, we must reflect on our unfinished work in Northern Ireland.
