Peru’s former president Ollanta Humala was convicted of money laundering and sentenced to 15 years in prison.

LIMA, a capital of the capital, said that Humala received illegal funds from Brazilian construction company ODEBRECHT and funded the election campaign in 2006 and 2011.

His wife, who co -founded Humala and the National Party, was also convicted of money laundering and sentenced to 15 years.

The prosecution was sentenced by Humala for 20 years in prison and 26 years in prison.

The court had long waited on Tuesday after three years of trial.

Humala attended verdicts while his wife listened to it through the video link.

The 62 -year -old former president and his wife denied any mistakes.

Humala, a former army officer who fought with the Maoist Bright Rebels, was the first to be famous of the state when he led a short military rebellion against President Alberto Fujimori in 2000.

In 2006 he ran for the president. He formed an alliance with Hugo Chávez, president of Venezuela, and the prosecution claimed that Humala accepted Chavez’s illegal funds and raised the campaign.

His competitor, Alan García, warned that “Peru has not turned into another Venezuela,” using Humala’s close relationships as a way for voters with Caves to attack him.

In 2011, Humala was running again for the presidency on a more gentle platform.

He said in Venezuela that he would model Brazil’s policies at the time, rather than imitating Chavez’s socialist revolution.

His approach was successfully proven and he defeated Keiko Fujimori, a right wing rival.

But the violent social conflict against the president’s position quickly drew his popularity.

He also lost his support for many members of the parliament and weakened his position.

His legal issue began shortly after his term ended in 2016.

That year, the Brazilian construction giant ODEBRECHT confessed that he would receive hundreds of millions of dollars of bribes to officials and political parties across Latin America.

The prosecution accused Humala and his wife for receiving millions of dollars from Odebrecht.

A year later, the judge ordered the couple to be in detention before the trial.

They were released a year later, but the investigation of the linkage with ODEBRECHT continued to peak today.
