Senior diplomats from BRICS countries will meet on Monday in Brazil to present the united front before the threats that arise in US President Donald Trump’s aggressive trade policy.
The meeting comes at a critical moment for the global economy after the International Monetary Fund this week reduced growth forecasts regarding the impact of new tariffs of the American leader.
Diplomats from the trading bloc, which includes the current president of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, will meet two days in Rio -derara as a predecessor of the rulers in July.
“The ministers are negotiating the declaration aimed at confirming the centrality and importance of the multilateral trade system,” Brazil Lyrio, a Brazilian representative, told reporters on Saturday.
The group has expanded significantly since its inception in 2009 – and now includes Iran, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates. It accounts for almost half the world’s population and 39% of world GDP.
Trump has impressed dozens of countries with a 10% tariff since returning to the White House, but China faces revenues up to 145% on many products. Beijing responded to 125% duties to US goods.
Foreign Minister in Brazil Mauro Vieira will be held at a meeting attended by Russian Sergei Lavrov and China van YI.
It is planned that it will start at about 11:00 local time (1400 gt) with a statement expected in the afternoon.
The climate change is expected to be held in November in November in the Amazon city of Belo, will be presented by the high level of the UN COP30 agenda.
The group may also discuss the war in Ukraine, as Trump seeks to push Russia and Ukraine to a peace agreement.
BRICS will join Tuesday on Tuesday to discuss nine other “partner” countries, including several former Soviet states, as well as Cuba, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda and Nigeria.
