Your guide to what the American elections mean 2024 for Washington and the world
The CIA concluded that Covid-19 may have started as a leak of a laboratory in China in a new assessment of the origins of the epidemic, which killed millions of people.
The US Intelligence Agency said it had concluded “low-confidence” that the Covid-19 virus had leaked from the research facility, in a transformation in its previous position that there was not enough information to reach a conclusion.
The agency said in a statement on Saturday:
“CIA) continues to evaluate that the origins of the assets associated with research and nature in the Covid-19s are still reasonable.”
The American Intelligence Society, which consists of 18 agency agencies, has evaluated the origin of the Covid-19 over the past four years to determine whether the virus has appeared naturally from the Melbel Market in the Chinese city.
The Central Intelligence Agency joins the FBI administration and the Energy Department in the conclusion that the virus originated from the Wuhan Laboratory. But she said that she was “low confidence in this ruling” and would continue to evaluate any reliable new intelligence reports or open source information “that could change her evaluation.
The new evaluation was in public a few days after Eden John Ratcliffe as Director of the CIA.
In an interview with Breitbart News after confirming that he was the choice of President Donald Trump to lead the Intelligence Agency, Ratcliffe said he believed that intelligence and sound instinct “dictates that the Kofid’s assets were a leakage at the Wuhan Institute for the Virus that” the audience realizes the agency. [CIA] It will come down from the side lines. “
One of the US officials said that Bill Burns, head of the CIA during the Biden Administration, told the CIA to assess evidence to take a position on the origin of Covid-19, but he did not dictate the result.
Burns’s directive came at a time when Jake Sullivan, who served as the National Security Adviser, ordered the intelligence community to take another look at the assets of the epidemic with the Biden team’s willingness to leave the position.
The US official confirmed that the Central Intelligence Agency had reviewed its evaluation before Ratcliffe ruled as a new manager.
“I said from the beginning that Cofide has probably arose in Wuhan Laborators. Tom Couton, Republican President of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said that Communist China covered and covered the liberal media for them.
“I am happy because the Central Intelligence Agency, which was concluded in the last days of the Biden administration that the theory of laboratory leakage is the most logical interpretation of the Kofid origins, and has proven to the director Ratcliffe to fulfill his promise to issue this conclusion. Now, the most important thing is to make China pay for the launch of the plague in the world. “
The Chinese embassy in the United States did not respond to a request for comment.
Changing the new CIA evaluation comes slightly more than one week after Trump delivered his first phone call to Chinese President Xi Jinping at least 2021. While many foreign policy experts expected Trump to take a difficult line on China – especially in trade – at the beginning – in his week, the president has so far stopped taking any harsh measures against Beijing.
In an interview with Fox News this week, Trump said that although the customs tariff gave him a “tremendous power” on China, he “does not have to use it.”
He also signed an executive order to postpone the deadline of the Chinese owner of Tiktok to strip the famous video application to avoid the ban in the United States.
