Starmer talked to Trump and Zelensky by phone after trial on Friday at the Oval Office and urged them to resume negotiations, including the completion of the transaction, to allow the US to share some of Ukraine’s mineral resources, people informed of conversations report.
On Saturday, Starmer made a public exhibition of support for Zelensky, who was met, encouraged by members of the public when he arrived on the longing, telling him that he had “full support” by the UK.
“You have heard the United Kingdom people go out to demonstrate how much they support you, and that we are absolutely determined to stand with you,” Starmer said, ahead of private negotiations.
Zelenskyy’s reception on Downing -Rate was unlike his hostile meeting with Trump ahead of the White House. President of Ukraine, who will meet with King Charles on Sunday, said Starmer that “we are counting on your support.”
On Sunday, London will hold 14 European leaders in London, seeking to gather military and financial support to Ukraine, including assistance in Russia.
The British Prime Minister, who has already proposed to put British troops on land in Ukraine after any ceasefire, hopes that several other European countries will follow the example, European diplomats said.
British officials should impress Zelensky that he should first threaten relations with Trump and that any world will not last unless the US is guaranteed by the United States, British officials said.
“The priority of the Prime Minister is something to do everything you need to protect Ukraine,” said one ally Starmer. “This means that the United States should participate. You have to fix this relationship and return to the mineral transaction.”
France also offered troops to help secure peace in Ukraine; Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron will use a Sunday meeting to try to strengthen a more muscular European reaction.
One British official suggested that it was time to put other European leaders where their mouth was: “What Ukraine needs now is weapons and oils. People do not need the virtue.”
Starmer wants Europe to put Ukraine in a strong position for negotiations with Russia – including weapons of Kiev and tightening sanctions in Moscow – and draw up a viable plan to ensure any peaceful transaction.
The British Prime Minister held warm talks with Trump at the White House on Thursday, 24 hours before Zelensky collided with an angry US president and Vice President JD Vance.
British officials do not believe that Starmer’s efforts were vain or played by the US president. One said: “Our relationship with the president is better than it was at the beginning of the week, and that’s important.
“What happened to Zelenskyy in the Oval Cabinet makes it even more important than if -something that the Prime Minister and Macron went to the White House.
“Ukraine needs weapons, food, long -term guarantees of peace and security. And they need the United States. People can tweet everything they like, but there is no other plan.”
Another British official said: “The Prime Minister will unite people and politely make sure they understand that there is only one negotiation in the city – and it is President Trump.”
Downing Street expects the participants at the Sunday summit to include Olaf Scholtz from Germany, Georgia Meloni from Italy and Donald Tusk from Poland, as well as Ursul von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and Mark Rutte, NATO Secretary General.
The summit will be held at the Lancaster House, a 19th century mansion, near the Bakingham Palace in Central London. Starmer will also call the leaders of the three state powers.
Last week, the French official stated that the early signs were that the UK and France would probably provide the largest contingents in any stabilization force after there may be offers of assistance to some Baltic states and possibly Sweden.
Germany and Poland, which support Ukraine, are among countries that still do not propose to send troops to the country affected by the war to help secure any peaceful deal.
