Your guide to what the American elections mean 2024 for Washington and the world
Donald Trump pledged to stop all American aid in South Africa due to land confiscation policies, which led to a decrease in Rand.
The American president claimed that recent measures enabled the government to unlike property and accuse the southern authorities of Africa of treating “certain groups of people very badly.”
He added: “I will cut all the future funding for South Africa until the full investigation of this situation is completed!”
Trump’s comments, which were made on the social truth, raised a 1.6 percent decrease in South Africa against the US dollar.
He later told reporters that the South African leadership was working in “some terrible things and terrible things” and suggested, without providing evidence or details, that the situation was worse than the confiscation of land alone.
President Cyril Ramavusa signed a bill for publication in the law that allows the seizure of the ground without compensation in certain circumstances if the government believes that it is “in general interest.”
The legislation replaces one of the dating from the era of apartheid, where thousands of non -white families were removed by force from their lands in favor of a white minority.
Three decades of multi -ethnic democracy, about a quarter of agricultural lands are owned by South Africa, who represent 80 percent of the population. The government aims to transfer a third of the lands to black by 2030. The “Earth question” is still very explosive.
It was also a 10 -party test for the country coalition. The pro -business democratic coalition, a traditional competitor to the African National Conference in Ramavusa, said that he “strongly opposes” the new law and said it may challenge him in the courts.
The United States set nearly $ 440 million in South Africa in 2023, last year for which the data was available. The Trump administration has suspended all foreign aid for 90 days and has made it the future of the main American Relief Agency, which is suspicious of its doubt as its website has become dark and dozens of employees were placed on leave.
Elon Musk, Trump’s close ally and head of the Ministry of Government efficiency, is originally from South Africa.
The other powerful Trump counselors had training experiences in the apartheid system in South Africa, including David Sachs, who was appointed in the Caesar Cherator Crystate.
Peter Thil, the founder of the billionaire Paypal, and the last Trump Akolit, spent part of his childhood in Namibia, which is ruled by the apartheid and South Africa, where his father worked in the white minority government. Thil was accused of supporting the apartheid, which was violently subjected to a black majority to support the white economic and political authority, a claim that he denied.
Ramavusa last month told reporters in Davos that he was “not worried” about the relationships and that Trump had spoken after the election of the American President. South Africa holds the presidency of the Group of Twenty this year.
During his first term, Trump said that his government would investigate the widespread killings of white farmers. The South African government rejected these allegations as baseless.
Trump had been targeted by the BRICS countries, which is a member of South Africa, threatening it with 100 percent of the customs tariff if it moved away from the US dollar as a backup currency.
