Manchester United is in the finals of the Europa League final, as the victory from the Athletic Club 4-1 completed the total win of 7-1.
Mikel Jaureguizar’s goal in the first half gave athletic hope, but Mason Mount came off the bench to calm United Nerves before a goal from Casemir, Rasmus H
The result sets a comprehensive finals in Bilbau on May 21 after Tottenham’s victory over Bodo/Glimt in the second semifinal. The difficult season for both Premier League clubs will end with one of them that secured the Champions League location next season.
How Man Utd turned around at night
Much of the job was done in Bilbau, United, providing this seemingly inaccessible three goals lead. With the Williams brothers – Nico and Inaki – both are not available for this return match in Manchester, the feeling that athletics lacked the necessary fire strength.
But this is united. While they found a lot of space behind from the beginning, they were wasteful. Patrick Dorga and Alejandro Garnacho were the main culprits, and the Basque side punished them when Mikel Jaureguizar crept out of long range to pull one back.
Harry Maguire lost too easily the possession, while Andre Onana got his hand to the shot, but he could not prevent it. It encouraged vocals fans to believe it was an amazing return, and Garccho missed one -on -one did nothing to single out the term.
Athletic dreamed well in the second half, but replacing Ruben amomers changed the game. Amad Diallo gave the offensive momentum, but the quality end of Mount -a ended with hopes of Ernesto Valverde, turning expertly, turning and shooting at the end corner.
Casemir’s loop header turned him the night before another great Amad Run placed a goal on the Hojlund plate. Mount had the last word, nicely ended up with a distance with a weaker left foot after a bad shout by an athletic goalkeeper.
He limited a special night on Old Trafford, another one for them in this competition. Even in these problematic times for United, the trophies continued to come. Last season it was a FA Cup. Now there are only one game away from the European silver accessories in Bilbau.
Player of the match: Mason Mount
Mount never scored for United at Old Trafford before this game, his only previous goals for the club that arrived in Brentford. These two were special, the first because of its importance in the moment, and the second to extinguish any evening.
“It was hard with injuries, but I continued and it paid off,” Mount said TNT Sports.
“We knew it would be difficult at the beginning of the game. Getting a goal to calm us down. It’s been too long (since I had this feeling). I just tried to come and influence the game.
“The audience was amazing. For me personally, my first goals at Old Trafford. Special night, one I waited for a long time. We want to go to Bilbao and now end strongly.”
Man utd striker Rasmus hojlund Speaking of his teammate:
“I am very pleased with the Mason Mount, he is one of my very good friends on this team. He is a good guy, he is always very tiring.
“He got a lot of sticks because he had a lot of injuries, but he was positive and tried to constantly fit.
“He had only one goal, it was to get back to the field. He did what he did today. We knew he had quality. It was about the time.”
Amorim welcomes the influence of the submarine
“Amad gave us this spark you need to change games,” he told Amorim TNT Sports.
“Mason Mount, I’m so happy about him, he’s such a player. He really works. He has quality. I really like Kobbie Mainoo, just 10 minutes on the field, but all he did was really good.
“You’re on the bench sometimes, but you change the game.
“It’s hard to describe what it’s like to be a manager at a club like this. Do you want to give something to the fans, because this season we were so disappointing in the Premier League.
“It is more important to give something to fans than to add something (your CV) as a winner.”
Valverde: Walking Park at the end
“Games last 90 minutes,” said Athletic coach Valverde. “You have to be on it 90 minutes, especially against teams that won’t let you go. It was a wide result.
“We felt like we had the opportunity when it was 1-0, it was good to make it good. They scored a goal at the key time, but we weren’t so bad. It was almost like a walk for the park for them at the end. They take away the last few minutes, it was much even more.”
