Arsenal scored three times in seven minutes half to come back 3-1 down to beat West Ham 4-3 in the Women’s Classic Super League.
West Ham was racing in two goals leading 12 minutes through the double Amber Tysiak, before Chloe Kelly scored her first goal from returning to Arsenal before the break.
Visitors seem to have made a shock victory when Shekier Martinez renewed a two -goal lead in the 51st minute, but only 11 minutes later.
Katie McCabe kicked out of the incredible angle, grabbing King’s goalkeeper Szemik in her near post, to pull her back in the 56th minute.
And within 120 seconds, Leah Williamson equalized the game with a top header in the corner that Szemik turned to the underside of the crossbar but could not stop from crossing the line.
Arsenal was angry and forced the penalty when Kirsty Smith solved the area, and Mariona Caldentey entered and found the bottom of the left corner to complete an incredible return in the 62th minute.
West Ham, which now sits in ninth place, almost equal through replacement Anouk Dento, whose strong shot from afar overtook Daphne Van Domselaar, and from the resulting angle Arsenal threw the ball off the line after pushing the ball on the crossbar.
Arsenal remains third, eight points behind Chelsea leader.
Williamson: I never thought we would lose
Arsenal The defender and player of the match Leah Williamson Sky Sports said:
“Sounds clicking, but I never thought we were going to lose. We just frustrated in the first half, but I thought we would turn him.
“Chloe (Kelly) was amazing today and when you need to inject something that has bitten her a little. That took us things to turn things around.
To her goal: “We practice those (corners) all the time. West Ham had 110 corners, and they haven’t confessed yet this year, and I was focused today that Chloe put the ball on my head.”
Kelly: I hope I can restore Arsenal’s faith
Arsenal forward Chloe Kelly Sky Sports said:
“I had a complete belief. I know the talent we have in this group and I know we can always score goals. Belief has always been there.
“It seems that years ago (her first goal of Arsenal). It was amazing to bring back the goal here. This club is amazing and I am grateful for the opportunity. I hope to be able to return it now.”
Skinner: I’m sure the third goal has not crossed the line
Western ham safe Remanne Skinner Sky Sports said:
“I thought we used our chances of the first half, showed our pace, we were lagging behind, and our delivery set Play were really good. We weren’t ready to let go of anything, fighting for everyone and they got goals from the game. They didn’t expect to play in the last five and we really are really good. I’m proud of today.
“It was a chaotic moment in which I thought there was a lot of direct game from Arsenal and didn’t clean our lines well enough. Unfortunately, the ball was constantly falling on them and we didn’t deal with it.
“I have to see a third goal because I’m pretty sure he didn’t cross the line. It’s important to look back at that. We didn’t really see that part of the game and he escaped from us there.
“There were so many offenses today. There are many questionable signs about it. There was also difficulty on the edge of the box as we were about to shoot and was not given. This is what it is.
“We scored three fantastic goals and created a lot of problems. There are a lot of positive results for us draw from the game on Wednesday night.”
Summeri: We have shown character and strength
Arsenal safe Renee Sumgeri Sky Sports said:
“I used to say that we were proud of pure sheets and solidly winning the defensively, so we were putting ourselves in a situation where we hadn’t been like a team since here.
“I am very proud of the way the girls were calm and assembled, found solutions and continued to dig – I think it shows great strength and character. That’s why we’re standing here with a victory.
“When we had a positive momentum, we were able to use it in the second half. This game gives us positive feedback on how to deal with difficult times.
“They had a very high team on the field today. They are strong in sets. The terrain was also very difficult, so it was difficult for us to play. It was part of the terrain, and part was to leave the ball in the central areas too much where the space was in wide areas. The ball was in intervals to turn it over and counter-attack.
“I am happy to hear (players believe in these), because it is important that they believe in what we do. As a player, it is easier to believe because you can influence it on the field and affect what is happening. Also the support of the fans held us to believe. They are calm and constantly supported.”
