On Sunday, Trump’s messenger Steve Vitkoff said CNN that he had a “positive” meeting with Putin and that Russian and Ukrainian parties are much closer today in the negotiations.
“I suppose that this week will be a call from both presidents, and we also continue to deal with the Ukrainians,” he said.
Comments are coming after the US and its G7 partners on Friday prevent Moscow that they could extend sanctions and use frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine because Trump seeks to defeat Putin in his ceasefire. Witcoof said CNN that he witnessed an improvement in the ceasefire negotiations. Previously, the parties were “miles apart,” he said.

Asked if he thinks there will be a deal, Vitcoof brought Trump, who said it would take weeks.
“I disagree with him,” said the CNN messenger.
