Dubai chocolate sparks deficiency pistachios

The meteorite rise of Dubai chocolate has caused the global crisis for pistachios, worsening the global gas deficit and sending growth prices.

Barry, marriage of pistachio creams, crushed baking and milk chocolate, were a modest hit after launching Boutique Emirati Chocolatier Emirati – until the video turned them into a global sensation.

The clip, located in December 2023, gained more than 120 million views and fueled the hobby worldwide for pistachio chocolate, spreading many kits.

Out of delight, pistachios rose from 7.65 to a pound a year ago up to $ 10.30 per pound, said Giles Hacking of Nut Trader CG Hacking. “At present, the world of pistachios are mostly stretched,” he said.

Chocolate is not cheap. Dubai offers Lindt is sold at £ 10 for 145 Grems in the UK, more than double the other bars. But consumers are so passionate that some shops limit how many bars can buy each customer, while Lindt and British Supermarket WM Morrison launched cream Easter eggs.

Pistachi stocks have already decreased after the fruitless harvest last year in the US, leading exporter NUT. The American crop was also higher quality than usual, leaving less cheap, without shells, which are usually sold as an ingredients for chocolate and other foods, the hack said.

“There was not much in the diet, so when Dubai chocolate comes, and (chocolate) buy all the kernels they get hands … It leaves the rest of the world,” Hacking said.

Iran, the second largest producer in the world, exported 40 percent more pistachios in the UAE six months before March 2025 than it was 12 months earlier, Iran’s customs department reports.

The deficit notes the sharp lapel since 2023, when the world demand for pistachios exceeded demand and caused the fall in prices, said Behroz Agah, a member of the Board of the Iranian Pistachio Association.

Due to this oversaturation, “various by-products, such as pistachio oil, oil and paste, have become available, which can be used in a wide range of pistachios,” he said. “It was approximately at the same time when Dubai chocolate was launched and gradually walked around the world.”

In California, some farmers have started moving from the almonds to the pistachios in recent years, mostly from the low almond prices, but these trees will not start producing until the next season in September.

Meanwhile, chocolates say they cannot produce enough bars filled with creams.

“It feels like it came out anywhere, and suddenly you will see it in every store,” said Charles Djandro, PRESTAT GROUP General, owned by Luxury UK Chocolate Brands.

“Nobody is ready for it,” he said, describing his fight for the purchase of Kataiaf, crushed baking in the Middle East used in the cream.

Chocolate lovers have already suffered from cocoa -koras, which led to the prices almost triple in 2024, as extreme weather and diseases were harvested. Manufacturers sell smaller bars with new recipes that expose cocoa.
