Overall, about 21.2 million Congoles affects more crises, especially armed conflicts, natural disasters and epidemics.
Multidimensional crises
The HRP was launched in Cinshas in Kinshas and humanitarian partners.
Comes as the country is facing unprecedented multidimensional crises, characterize three main destabilizing factors: a spiral of violence spreading from ITURI in Tanganyika province; The presence of the Rebels M23 who now control the key areas of northern Kiv and South Kiva, where the humanitarian needs are huge, and the great crisis of financing that threatens the humanitarian response.
“All warning signals are blinking red. However, despite huge challenges, the humanitarian action still proves its efficiency in saving life every day,” said Bruno Lemarquis, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in the DRC.
“We need to adjust to continue the delivery of this vital help without ever compromising the fundamental principles conducting humanitarian action: neutrality, impartiality, independence and humanity,” he added.
Family support
Humanitarians said the answer this year wants to fulfill the most urgent needs and alleviate suffering through fast and efficient assistance, adapted to the terrain conditions.
The HRP includes the treatment of 1.5 million children suffering from acute malnutrition, providing access to safe drinking water for five million people, and combating outbreaks of disease such as cholera, measles and mpox.
The plan will also support the return of displaced families, restoring funds for life and willingness for blows connected to the climate. Furthermore, in the context of the marked extreme violence, the protection of civilians and the most endangered – especially women and children – remains a top priority in everything they do.
However, operations are endangered by a sharp decline in financial support.
‘At the intersection’
Last year, humanitarians received a record $ 1.3 billion in funding, which allowed them to reach 7.1 million in the DRC. The leading donor of the United States covered 70 percent of the funds. In January, Washington announced that the freezing of all payments for foreign minimum 90 days.
“We stand at the crossroads. With no increased international mobilization, humanitarian needs will accelerate, regional stability will be further endangered and our ability to answer will be seriously endangered,” said Mr. Lemarquis.
Humanitarians called on the Congolese Government, the International Community and National and International Humanitarian Partners for the collective increase in solidarity for the implementation of the plan with the necessary resources, access and support.
“Humanitarian aid is necessary for life saving. However, it is not a solution,” Mr. Lemarquis said.
“Right solutions are, primarily political and require targeted, sustainable actions for resolving the root causes of the conflict.”
